Assault Survivor Kits®
The Assault Survivor Kits program provides personal care items for sexual assault victims seen in hospital emergency rooms. In 2016-2017 our kits were able to provide comfort to 730 sexual assault survivors. SInce the program began in 1997, 7,513 kits have been distributed. The Assault Survivor Kits are distributed by volunteers of MOCSA (Metropolitan Organization to Counter Sexual Assault)
when victims present at area hospitals. The Assault Survivor Kits program provides clothing and other items to help assault victims, whose garments are retained by police for evidence, to leave the hospital comfortably and with dignity.
Each reusable discreet kit contains pants, a shirt, underwear, hygiene items and the book Recovering from Rape
by Dr. Linda Ledray, R.N., PH.D. It should also be noted that Assistance League of Kansas City is the only organization providing this type of support to MOCSA.
The staff at MOCSA is always grateful for all Assistance League of Kansas City and the Assault Survivor Kits program do to help their clients. There is no other agency that fulfills this need. MOCSA says “Thank you so much for all you do in helping us provide the best service we can to survivors of sexual violence."
A MOCSA volunteer made this comment, "The kits are an important part of the healing process."
From a survivor: "I am very grateful for the clothes, the police took mine."
From a survivor: "I like this, it is so nice. The clothes are so comfortable."
Another survivor stated that she was "very grateful for the toiletries."
